In 2012 five Stanford college kids living on Alpine Street started experimenting with how to make better camera gear. We were motivated by a desire to capture mindblowing imagery of places like Yosemite and the people and things we loved in ways that hadn’t been possible.
At the time camera equipment didn’t match our needs and was exceedingly clunky, confusing and expensive. So we designed Radian, our first product, and launched it on Kickstarter. Radian quickly expanded the technical boundaries of motion time lapse for advanced photographers. Needing a name we called ourselves Alpine Labs after our street and passion for wild places.
After creating Radian we joined forces with fellow Kickstarter success story Vivo labs and continued to create camera accessories that give hobbyists and adventure photographers access to more power and possibility all while enabling pros to move faster.
Several products and Kickstarter campaigns later, we’ve since graduated from working in a garage and are now based in Boulder, CO. Our team has grown and our mission has remained the same. We’re as dedicated as ever to democratizing photography.
From sunny San Diego California, I studied a combination of physics, mechanical engineering, computer science and electrical engineering. I grew up woodworking and building, and I love working on physical, tangible products that integrate my varied background (no social networking apps for me). I love making gear that emopowers both new and experienced photographers to capture the beauty of the world in which we live, and I am proud to be a part of this team.
Born in San Diego, I grew up spending an inordinate amount of time outside. Whether it was surfing at Blacks Beach, or climbing up in the Sierras or Joshua Tree, I loved being in beautiful places and as I grew older sharing them with others through photography and film. I stayed in San Diego for the outdoor access and followed my passion for understanding people and their stories by studying Psychology at UCSD. During this time I became enthralled with the learning the skills necessary to take an idea from concept to reality and later joined the MBA program at UCSD. I continue to be fascinated by the art of storytelling and love that Radian,Michron, Pulse, and now Spark give you the tools to tell your story differently. It is awesome to be a part of such a dedicated and passionate team and I cannot wait to show you what we have next.
Hailing from the Finger Lakes region of Upstate New York, I left home to pursue a BS in computer engineering from the University of Pittsburgh where I graduated in December of 2013. I moved to Boulder Colorado in the early fall of 2015 for the tech scene as well as to enjoy the Colorado lifestyle. I love working on hard problems, and there is no shortage of them at Alpine Labs. Check out my website if you get a chance!
Growing up in Colorado, I’ve had no shortage of amazing places to explore and photograph. I have a crazy passion for cameras and all kinds of photography. In fact, I have a collection of 26 cameras and counting! My love of photography, and helping others get into photography, brought me to Alpine Labs. I’m excited to be working with a team that makes photography more approachable for everyone, and I’m even more excited to see what you all capture while exploring and adventuring!
Growing up in the Netherlands and then moving to Colorado in 2005, Steven has traveled the world and been exposed to many different ways of life. Landing in Boulder two years ago, he began working for Alpine Labs in September of 2016. He studied International Business at the University of Denver and enjoys playing music, creating art and traveling in his spare time.
Though he hasn't been on the team long, Blake is pretty close to "Alpine Blue," and has managed to bring a lot to the team aesthetically. While technically a Betta fish, some would say he looks like more of an Alpha.
